Single item pickup: one couch, mattress, or appliance hauled away

Not every job needs a full truckload. Single item pickup is for when there is just one bulky piece to get rid of, a couch, mattress, refrigerator, washer or dryer, or a hot tub, usually because it is being replaced or no longer fits the space. It is a smaller, faster booking than a full furniture and appliance removal job.

Because it is one item, scheduling tends to be quicker and the crew size smaller. The main things that affect the visit are how heavy or awkward the item is to move and whether it needs to come down stairs or through tight doorways.

  • One bulky item removed, such as a sofa, mattress, appliance, or similar single piece
  • Faster booking windows than a full load removal, often available same-day or next-day
  • Proper disposal of items that require it, such as refrigerants recovered from old fridges and freezers
  • Handling of disassembly when an item is too large to move whole

What it costs

Price is mainly driven by the size and weight of the item, whether it needs to be carried down stairs or through a tight hallway, and any special disposal handling it requires, such as appliances that need refrigerant recovery or mattresses that go through a separate disposal stream. Most companies set a minimum charge for a single item that is lower than a full truckload rate.

FAQ

Is there a minimum charge for picking up just one item?
Most companies charge a flat or minimum rate for a single item, which is usually lower than a full truckload but still covers the trip and disposal fees.
Can I book same-day pickup for one item?
Many crews that offer single item pickup can fit it in same-day or next-day, since it takes less time on site than a full home or office job.
Do they take appliances like fridges and air conditioners?
Yes, most single item pickup services handle appliances, though items containing refrigerant need to go through proper recovery before disposal, which some companies handle directly.
Will the crew carry the item down stairs or out of a basement?
Most crews will carry a single item from inside the home, including down stairs or up from a basement, as part of the pickup.
